| Will A. Willis, Jr. Learning and Golf Training Facility |
| WHAT IS IT? |
The Will A. Willis, Jr. Learning and Golf Facility is a proposed educational facility that will benefit all children, especially those children that are of low to moderate income levels in the metropolitan area. The facility will be constructed on 2.5 acres of land located at 1702 5th Street in Phenix City, Alabama. The project is the brainchild of Mrs. Pam Willis-Hovey as she became aware of the need for such a facility that will provide a variety of sports training programs in golf. The center will also teach academic courses in computers, photography and more. Mrs. Hovey has diligently sought and has gained enthusiastic support from local elected officials, nearby schools, local residents and even the interest of private corporations.
This is Pam Willis-Hovey's personal testimony.
"I was inspired by observing my nephew Shawn who has participated in a golf program, ever since the age of 6. This program is taught at a facility called First Tee of Columbus. I have always been impressed at the way he was being taught the game of golf not only the sportsmanship, but also the core life skills that are taught to encourage character development, structure and discipline for all areas of his life. At the time of this writing, he is now 12 years old and I have been impressed with his growth and potential with the game of golf, as well as the maturity and life skills training that is evident in his everyday life."
At this time, plans are in place for the property to be graded and surveyed. Architectural plans have been drawn for the facility. Everyone that is involved with the project is passionately eager to have the project move forward so that the programs that will be developed and implemented for the young residents of the community. This effort will benefit prospective clients not only instructionally but also socially as well.
With all of this momentum in place, we are asking for your participation to help make this project a reality. The planned opening of this facility is scheduled for the middle of 2008. It will cost approximately $1,000,000 in startup costs for construction, facility setup and initial operations. The operations budget is projected to be approximately $370,000 per year. The proposed facility will consist of a 5 hole golf training facility with 2 buildings that will serve as a golf/learning center. One of the
buildings will be for golf training and the second building will contain several classsrooms that will be utilized for various golf and academic programs.
