Special Hospice Care For You
What are the benefits and goals of hospice care?
There are two primary goals of hospice care. The first goal is to help patients become free of pain and other uncomfortable symptoms. This allows patients to fully enjoy a quality of life in their remaining weeks and months.
The second goal of hospice care is the successful bereavement of family and loved ones. Families and loved ones are encouraged to participate in the care of their loved one, and to openly discuss fears and concerns. The hospice team's support for this kind of involvement enables families to look back on the hospice experience with pride in their accomplishments and joyful memories of this important time in their loved one's life.
How is Hospice Different?
In hospice, we view the patient and family as a whole unit of care. The needs and problems of both patients and their loved ones are important for a successful hospice care. Hospice is not a place, and hospice care can occur wherever the patient lives - and the patient care can be moved between home or home-like setting and facility settings as needed while remaining in hospice care. Because we focus on comfort rather than cure, hospice focuses on people rather than diseases. Most importantly, we see this transition as a normal process. We help the patient and family approach this phase of life with hope and dignity, to live as fully as possible in what can be a most rewarding stage of life.
HOSPICE PHILOSOPHY respects the rights of patient and family highest quality of life possible:
The right to pass on with dignity, as dignity is perceived by the patient.
The right to actively participate in managing the remainder of life span and the event of this transition.
The right to remain a viable family member in the environment of choice.
The right to have his/her needs considered on a personal individual.
